A long-running initiative to develop a section of land close to the city of Málaga is gathering momentum. Plans have now been drawn up and presented to local authorities to develop a site near the Parador del Golf for the construction of hotels, offices, retail outlets and other facilities.
Although it is likely to take several years before any of the building work commences, the latest developments represent an important move forward for the group of Spanish and international investors that are backing the scheme. Those working on the proposals have been attempting for almost ten years to adhere successfully to the planning restrictions previously set by governmental bodies, which include coastal, highway and aviation authorities.
The project has been named La Cizaña estate and its location is close to the MA-20 /AP-7 motorway and Los Álamos beach, bordering the resort town of Torremolinos. As noise pollution from plane traffic at nearby Málaga Airport has deemed the site inappropriate for any additional residential units, backers have concentrated on public facilities that will be beneficial to visitors and the local community alike.
Building plans, drawn up by HCP Architects, include a new road, which will connect the motorway to the beachfront, and 600 new parking spaces. The application plan also includes details of two double storey hotels, office premises and shopping outlets, all interspersed by six considerable areas of green space.
Detailed construction drawings and paperwork are currently being prepared and the development is expected to overcome the final building regulation hurdles over the next few years.
